A French history
The Himalayan model was born from a discussion between Fred Lip, a mountain enthusiast, and his friend Lionel Terray, a high mountain guide. Maurice Herzog, friend of Fred Lip, contributed to the success of this watch. Maurice Herzog was the first mountaineer to climb the Annapurna. Indeed, the 1959 advertisements stated that it had been chosen by nine out of ten of the "Greats" of mountaineering for its amazing resistance to the elements and impacts. Associated with a number of sporting events, including the Tour de France, where it awarded the best sportsman of the day.
